Having only played the second of this amazing franchise of games, Assassin's Creed is indeed a great game and from my point of view, collection of pure, inspiring art. The artwork of these games exceed so many expectations for video gaming of its time - the absolute height of gaming technology!
Published by Ubisoft and created by not only them, but several other companies, the first release was November 18th 2007 and became a hit almost instantly! It is a game based around historical fiction and relies on historical and social accuracy to make the game even more believable and realistic. If you hadn't noticed already simply by reading this blog, I'm a massive fan of anything that involves history, biblical reference and so forth.
From this handful of main games, around 10 other spin-off-type games have been created, a series of graphic novels, films, literature and lots and lots of franchise have been created! The first handful of games (the main series) take part in what seems to be old Italy. These soon progress with the release of "Black Flag" to a more French revolution historical context. Here are some concept art images to show how beautiful the artwork is. The colours are light, airy and neutral in the Italy-based games (this gives a warm feel and works well with the era, technology (cotton, natural materials etc.) and setting) whereas the America-based "Black Flag" features clothing and weaponry very similar to that of the traditional French cavalry therefore uses appropriate colours (blues, reds and whites, and sometimes browns and blacks).
