OUAN502 - PPP2: Creative in Residence (James G. Wall)

OUAN502 - PPP2:

Our creative in residence on this occasion happened to be a former student of the college, as did all the guests we had been spoken to so far, named James Wall. James had recently been working on a minimum-budget film called "The Truth About Romance" which has now gone on to reach over 900,000 views on YouTube!

James came to us with the intention of giving us an insight into what it's like to be him and basically what not to do. After he graduated college with a first-class degree - which is apparently worth noting as students with a second-class or third-class say they have a "degree" and hesitate to state what class they achieved, which I think is pure snobbery, really - which was a fantastic achievement on his behalf, he said that the pride must have kicked in a little too much as he thought he was this "big shot" in the filmmaking industry all of a sudden. This lead him to expect all the work out there to come to him without any effort coming from him to hunt work down and essentially begin networking on a more professional scale.

We learned that through constant nagging, pestering, and head-hunting, networking would eventually get a little easier as you would learn the skills and first-hand experience needed to find the right people. Don't give up! Promotion is key, and it was through such dedicated promotion that he managed to receive publicity on his feature-length film. In fact, it was one of, if not the first feature-length film to ever be debuted on YouTube! In 2014, it was featured in the national publication "British Filmmaker Magazine".
