OUAN502 - PPP2:
We were greeted by yet another visitor who had also been a member of Leeds College of Art who went by the name of Tom Saunders. Although I didn't quite remember his name at first when writing this post, the term "nerdy Doctor Who guy" did spring to mind which is definitely a good thing as he must've had a lasting impact on me for me to associate him with something he loved and had worked with.
Speaking of Doctor Who, Tom had come in to tell us all about his current work for Big Finish studios. He is a self-confessed Doctor Who nerd who loves all things film. He graduated from Leeds College of Art six years ago and went on to do animations for Big Finish, a company specialising in Doctor Who podcasts and sci-fi audiobooks. He enlightened us by telling us the same sort of stuff that the others had in terms of how difficult it is to find work, being freelance, and approaching companies and prospective clients.
He then showed us a series of short mockup animations he made for Big Finish in order to show them the rough idea of what he was trying to achieve. He explained that it is crucial to get your idea across in as little effort as possible. You need to try and sell your idea via a pitch and you should be able to sum up your audience, purpose and idea in a few sentences on a pitch board.
