OUAN402 - PPP: Steampunk Competition Entry - Brian Kesinger

OUAN402 - PPP:

So, it dawned on me recently that maybe I should blog about a competition entry I took part in last year on DeviantArt hosted by my illustration idol, Brian Kesinger (character designer and illustrator for Disney).

I entered some fan art of his original character, Lady Bonnie, a Victorian, Steampunk-styled tea lady adorned in posh dresses, fancy hats and followed by her pet, Otto the Octopus. As a result of this, I got a lovely little comment from Kesinger on DeviantArt which made my entire month as I was incredibly thrilled by this!

I may not have won but just receiving a positive comment from my inspiration was a wonderful thing in its own right.

The art that I did was a simple line drawing with cross-hatch shading of his OC, Lady Bonnie. At the time I was rather proud of it, however I have made some vast improvements since then and I look back and think I certainly could've improved my sense of proportion as she looks a little "squished" on the page. Her head is far too big, even for Kesinger's style! Her hands look a little bit unrealistic and the observational drawing in general is little to be desired.
