OUAN402 - PPP: Bradford Animation Festival Continued...

OUAN402 - PPP:

We then went on to see Professional 3 (we skipped the second one) which featured Hollow Land (a very disturbing story of a couple who move to a land of sinks, taps, bathtubs and the dreaded plunger hats! The Hollow Land has very bizarre laws (plungers must be worn at all times!) and shows how the couple manage their lives in this new environment.), Carne, Resistant Soul, Mr Hublot (Another personal favourite! This cute little 3D animation shows how Mr Hublot (name derived from popular watch) lives life with OCD - he literally lives by the clock! He then takes on a sweet little dog then eventually grows to be bigger than his house...), Obida, Marilyn Myller (Very interesting technique of polystyrene foam in this animation.) and lastly My Three Grandmas which is a brilliantly animated tale of a girl (now a fully grown woman) recalls memories of (and the history of) her grandmas.

After that, we stayed in the theatre (there wasn't much moving around, so snacks and energy drinks were a must!) to watch Student 2, the follow on from Student 1 from the previous day at BAF. The Odd Sound was a rather interesting animation. I find that I enjoy animations with a very cliché storyline - as in, I like a clear beginning, problem, climax then happy resolution to most narratives. I liked this particular animation as the "Odd Sound Out" eventually found someone who appreciated him and there were many "awwwws" to be heard amongst the crowd! Then came The Magnificent Lion Boy, Rabbit and Deer (which cleverly integrated 2D and 3D animation and made them react with each other in a very humorous and emotional way), Sockskewerstreet 8, Miss Todd (an animation with beautiful artwork of which reminded me of my A Level Fine Art project, and was heavily based on feminist views and such), The Shirley Temple and Memoria.
