OUAN402 - PPP: Dean Gray, An Inspiration

OUAN402 - Dean Gray:

After creating a piece of work over the summer holidays last year for my own personal use - a graphic to be precise - a friend of mine sent me a website of a graphic designer who went by the name of Dean Gray. They told me that my work reminded me of Dean's in the sense that it was funny and quirky looking. Some of the facial features were similar also. I checked out Dean's site and really loved his work!

I soon discovered that Dean is a former member of Leeds College of Art and studied Graphic Design. His style is very graphic-like, is successful as advertising and illustration, and is very obviously created in Illustrator. He refrains from using bold, black outlines unlike myself which I prefer in all honesty. I love the clean, crisp shapes he uses to compose his characters.

Here is an image of some of Dean's work from his site. I love the way he characterises his typeface, giving it a sense of life and personality.
